For Crew, by Crew
Kia Ora
My name is Deborah Downey, and I’m proud to be an Air New Zealand flight attendant, operating on the long-haul, international fleet. Prior to joining the company in 2016 I had a long career in the beauty therapy industry.
The dry cabin problem
For the last few years I have searched the world to find skincare products that will be effective in our very unique work environment, but I haven’t been able to find a skincare range that targets specific crew needs.
Crew don’t want travel sized - we actually need travel designed.
Being the face of our airline takes its toll on our skin. Cabin humidity sits at between 15% to 20% rather than the usual ~50-70%.
This low humidity, plus significantly increased exposure to radiation together with frequent makeup use, leads to a compromised skin barrier which means sensitivity, makeup that doesn’t sit, or stay well on the skin, and dry, dehydrated, damaged skin.
Science tells us that products that are designed for “ground” use are less effective at a high altitude, with very low humidity.
Cabin crew spend hundreds of dollars every year on products that don’t solve our needs.
I realised that thousands of aircrew worldwide face this same issue.
So I have created Aircrew Skincare, a purpose-built skincare line, developed and manufactured in South Korea. Aircrew isn’t just travel sized, it’s travel designed. We are formulating each product specifically for aircrew, with all the very specific challenges they face.
